Today I passed 150 hours of operation on my Jensen 51 replica.
Knowing this milestone was coming up, I have been re-doing photos and writeup on my website section for this powerplant. In part this was needed because I have continued to modify it over the almost 3 years since I first built it, and have added many new features.
I can honestly say I don't think I can mod it much more...it might be kind of finished!!
Have a look:

That is a milestone, guess now that you have worn it out you can just give it to me
Great write up too, I noticed new photos too with the green belts _________________ Non Impedite Raditioni Cogitationis |

Thanks guys...if it isn't abundantly evident, that engine is my pride and joy. John, since the prototype Jensen 51 ran over 8,000 hours, mine at 150 hours is just broken in...sorry, no handoffs!!!
Most of the photos ARE new and reflect a number of mods made this year including:
- addition of a 5th lamp over the DC motor that lights up when motor is activated
- addition of a drain setup to empty the system more elegantly than a siphon
- addition of an "Inches of Water" gauge that tells the amount of water in the tower at any point in time
- addition of a set of banana jacks that allow for external tapping of the DC output
- addition of a gift of engraved ID tags for front of console
- addition of rubber belting throughout (which I really like vs. springbelts)
- I also moved some switches from the rear of console to the front having opted for convenience more than original look since I have strayed pretty far from the original design
If I had to sell my whole collection (God forbid)...this one would be the last to go and would leave with me clutching it to the last!!!

IF it gets to the point that you think you need to sell off the whole collection, you can stay in the spare room here and keep your collection. _________________ Non Impedite Raditioni Cogitationis |

Thanks for the offer John...but do you think all FIVE of us could fit!!
Perhaps I could send the other four to stay in your spare room, then my collection and I would have lots of room to grow here _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

Wow Rog, its a while since i read your webpage on it, how impressive.
150 hours , thats almost 6 whole days of running, you must love that.
I always wonder where those other 51s are- and when one will turn up.
One thought though- never say last- I do wonder when your 3rd 51 will be made _________________ You cant get an engine for that anymore unless you are lucky |

Thats a fair amount of hours you have now clocked up on that one Rog. I bet a fair few gallons of water have passed through that boiler.
You certainly have one impressive engine there. _________________ Make time to take a step back, and appreciate what you already have. |

Steven, I just did a quick calculation...based on prior testing, that engine consumes one US gallon of distilled water for every 90 minutes of operation.
150 hours x 60 min/hour = 9000 minutes
9000 minutes divided by 1 gal every 90 minutes = 100 gallons of distilled consumed to date
Fortunately distilled can be purchased here relatively cheap at about 75 US cents/gallon and I usually pick up 10 gallons at a time...so I've sent up about $75 USD in vapor over the course of 3 years...cheaper than the pub!!! I have probably spent more in electricity, but I'm not going to calculate that!!!

Your setup is stunning Rog, a real masterpiece.
Congratulations on clocking up 150 hours, I'm sure the next 150 will be every bit as enjoyable for you! |

Congrats!
Says something about your build skills too Rog.......
Just think....you have effectively dumped gallons of water in your basement workshop.....
You could get a de-humidifier and re-claim the water!
Joking aside.......Lets not talk about selling your collection....ugh!
