65 years ago today, 19 Lancasters took off from RAF Scampton to bomb 3 dams in Germany. 8 planes were lost and 53 crewmen.
The bomb was designed and tested in Lincolnshire
Here's the base, taken from GJ's camper van
And here is the site where the fuel for the planes was pumped from to Scampton
We shall remember them!

You sure can't beat the sound of four rolls royce merlins from a Lancaster.
I see the City of Lincoln - now painted up as Phantom of the Ruhr is looking absolutely fantastic after it's extensive refit!

Wrong, according to Wikipedia, Barnes Wallis actually used a dam in Mid-Wales.
| Quote: | The Nant-y-Gro dam - this small dam was constructed in the early stages of the project to supply water to the navvies village at the site; it was most famously used during the Second World War by Sir Barnes Wallis during trials of the explosive charges he intended to use in the 'bouncing' bombs which later targeted the Ruhr dams.
|
And testing of the bombs took place in Kent.
| Quote: | | Testing of the bouncing bomb was done at Reculver, Kent. |

Shouldn't trust Wikipedia over people who know local history _________________ Forum Founder, Owner and Admin.

Forgot to say, it were when he were testing the concept to see if it worked, with small scale models, in a lake with no dam _________________ Forum Founder, Owner and Admin.
