So, here we have the full Mamod stable of official locos, plus a few prototypes that never got released.
And here we see the missing link between the Mamod and the current MSS motif.
My personal favourite is still the spledid SL3, especially when pulling a rake of matching coaches.
The IP Jane was a very successful loco in its own right, but look what she was concieved from!
As sneeky peek at the new kid on the block...?
And now, that video I promised ages ago. Please forgive the first 15 seconds of blank screen - its worth the wait. I present to you 'The Official Mamod Promo Video'.
Brilliant! That new royal blue one looks damn good
Thanks, its the Dream Steam 2008 Christmas Special - only 25 will be availalbe! Also blue coaches to match, and a limited run of green coaches to match the MSS green loco.
[quaote="steamyjim"]Any chance of more pictures of the 3 prototypes...they look realy interesting [/quote]
The first in a series of special articles clebrating the 30th anniversary of the Mamod Steam Railway will be in the January (out December) edition of Garden Rail Magazine. The first one is the story of how the project got off the ground and the companies behind it. The second will be on all the different models and prototypes etc. The third will be on buying, owning an drunning the locos, and the fourth will be on the modifications and examples of what has been done in the past. This will then launch the Best Mamod of All Time competition, for which the overall winner will recieve a specially commissioned Gold Plated loco. As pictures of the three prototypes have not been published before, I have to give some exclusivity to the magazine and save further pics of these for the article. So keep your eyes peeled for the mag in the new year.
I can tell you that the one with the cow catcher was apparently one of 10 made up in the USA to try and create more interest over there, along with a coach with special brass and enammel badges. The loco has large brass and ennamal plates that say 'New Oreleans Special'. The green one is one of a batch of only 25 45mm locos that were produced for the Severn Valley Railway. Unfortunately the order was cancelled and they never went on general public sale - so where the other 24 are, who knows? The red one behind the SVR one is odd. Is is a pale red colour refered to as Rust. The story is that it was the last batch of panels ever produced and it was to be a new colour launch that never happened. But David Evens, ex production manager of Mamod knows nothing of these. It is probably an example of an unofficial one created by another company?
Dont want to clutter your table to much but what is the story with the SR1 in the video with the cylinder/piston assembly on the "wrong" side? _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFtwin and replacement spares for Bowman, Cyldon and Mamod Steam Engines

Can't say I noticed that before
This vid was made by Alyn Stock who helped Mamod with promo work, and David Evens. All the items would have come from the Mamod factory. I know the fire engine is actually the very first one every made - its the original prototype. So its possible they used another prototype SR1 aswell that had the piston gear on the otehr side?

Phil (FC) has got a few prototypes from Mamod, lucky chap. He did mention the one that pumps water last time I was up there. I believe they experimented with a water pump version, so you are right. The one in the vid is the prototype/pre production one of the design that went into production.

I just noticed on the promo vid that the SA1 (mamod car) the drive band connection to the wheel was on the left side instead of the right
must be another proto model because on the production model its connected to the other wheel. _________________ The Woodrow story

The early production models had the drive on that side and then it later moved over to the other so that there was less friction. _________________ Regards
