As you can see if you follow this link...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pA3jkbeVnWo
I put a little video on YouTube, and got an invitation from Mamodman123. Thank you!

Let's have a bit of history. I've had Mamods for longer than I can remember, and had a small collection of SEs, and a battered TE1A, in my school days, several of which came from Oldham market. None of these had seen the light of day for about 15 years, and then, about 4 years ago, I got into eBay (I'm sure that I aint the only one this has happened to) and decided I could buy myself a new project. I picked up an old SR1A and stripped it down, got half way through the rebuild and got distracted onto a bigger project (rebuilding a Land Rover).

About this time a work colleague mentioned that his father had a TE1 that didn't run very well, and asked if I could have a look at it. So I took it home and steamed it up. It leaked quite badly at the cylinder face, and probably always had done, (Also the piston was not perpendicular to the crank, but I wasn't prepared to desolder someone else's engine) so I set about lapping the cylinder & valve face to a closer fit, and steamed it up to see if it'd improved. That's where the video is from. Colleague's father is very happy with his improved TE1.

Recently I set up a YouTube account as a place to show my off-roading videos on the many Land Rover forums (or fora, you decide!) which I inhabit. Rooting through my office computer, I found the video of the TE1, and thought I'd upload that too.

And that brings us back to the start of this post, except to say that I spent most of yesterday evening pouring over the forum, when I should have been fixing my Landy. That just goes to show what an excellent forum you have. I'll be posting a few pics of my engines, and have a few bits I'd like to pass on to those who can use them.
I'll get that SR1A finished as well, and then I'll fix up my rotten TE1A.

V8Nick

P.S. Anyone want to tell me how rare that TE1 in the video is?

Welcome to the forums Nick

That TE1 is quite rare, its built using nuts and bolts instead of rivets. Does it have the canopy? It could be one of the first ever made

I look forward to seeing your collection and your input on the forums

Enjoy your stay

Welcome V8Nick but watch out. I bet you thought restoring Land Rovers was expensive but that's cheap compared with collecting steam engines as there is always just one more engine you must have.......................

cant go wrong with a TE1 one of mamods best engines in opinion the one you have was only produced from 1963-1965 so its quite rare

If only it were mine.

In honour of being invited to join the forum, I've been steaming my other TE1A. It's one I got in a job lot of eBay stuff, in grotty condition, with a burnt canopy. I chose to run that one because I just realised that I have never run it, and I'll be wanting to sell it in a little while, so it'd be good to know that it ran. And it did run, though the hole in the reverser must be a few degrees out of place, as when the lever is fully forward, the engine will not run.

I'll post a video of that later on.

Cheers, Nick

Sounds good Nick!

I look forward to the video . Some Te's can have problems with the reverse levers.
