I got my latest Roller earlier this week. This is a fairly uncommon Bing Roller and dates from about 1924ish. The engine is complete and in original condition. Unfortunately, the paint has suffered over the years and is a poor state. When new, this model was mostly bright red. What do people think.

I think I can clean it a little but if it is over cleaned it would lose lots of its value.

Certainly looks continental in it's styling, I would be tempted not to clean it at all.

It has aged well for 70+ years. It's a nice engine.

I like it loads and think it is a little different. I just wish it was more red.

Yes I know what you mean, it would have been quite striking in it's red livery when new.

It would probably be fair to say that there are not many around which still have all their original paint intact.

I've only seen pics of one other engine like this. That one looked like it had a better paint job but on closer examination the paint had been 'touched up'. I rather leave it as it is, than start re-painting any of it.

Bit of a dilemma there Manx.

Looking closely at it I think most of the roller would come up fine.

I don't really see anything too bad.

Thing is how much do you do??

Yes leave it as it is, I wouldn't paint it in any way either

Wow, i like it, a lot. I love old nurmburg bing's and carettes, and the american weedens. That one is especially rare, god you are lucky, mumble, mumble... There is a 1920's weeden roller on ministeam for about 1000 dollars, and it has been restored. I like that weeden better, chain drive Going to fire it???

Its got a certain charm about it Manx
It would have looked stunning when new
With its red livery and polished brass...............
I wonder if it would be possable to run the photo
Through photoshop to get an idea off what it would
Have looked like originally

Nice one.
The shape of the cabin reminds me a bit of the early locos as well.
I would give it a gentle clean but I think your right if you remove the 'age' it will loose its value.
All important question is it still steamable and will you?

Now that is a great idea. Not a clue how to do it but didn't Mike do a purple Mamod TE at one time using that sort of thing.

Mike.... any chance you could give it a go? Is it hard? Would it take a long time?
