This arrived yesterday, i suppose all mamod rest's will take a back seat for a while.
A trip to a nearby joinery shop should sort out a new base board
I'm pretty sure it's never been fired, just stored in a cellar for the last sixty or so years!

It's an E101 and you have a spare boiler and chimney! They're worth quite a bit on their own. You've got the burner and the oiler tap which are the bits most often missing. Looks like somebody has taken a saw to the base, but as you say that's easy enough to replace. I'm very jealous!

E101 it is then.
More pics in better focus i hope.
Did anybody notice the spare boiler & chimney in the first post/pic ?
We will take our time on this one (decorating the hall & landing may hinder slightly), don't want to 'pendragon' it though do we now!!!!!

Looks like somone was hungry looking at that base . Nothing that can't be sorted. A nice little project to sink your teeth into anyway . At least it looks complete

Obviously i'm not a Bowman expert, how much did you pay MJ?

The base has actually got dry rot. I'm having trouble deciding what type of wood was used, as i want it to be as close to original as possible.
Believe it or not it was a gift from the elderly father of a great friend of mine. Having worked in the toy industry he was fully aware of what he was gifting. There's a few more bits & pieces in the box that i'll post in the future once this ones looking a littlle more ship shape!

I think the wooden bases are beech, or something very similar! The "few more bits and pieces" wouldn't be more E101 parts would they? I ask because its very unusual to have a spare boiler and chimney... I wonder what happened to the rest of the second engine?

it's a shame, not quite enough for a second build project, but if we could get a spare metal base, tap for drip feed oiler & a fire box it wouldn't be far short

As the wooden base is beyond repair, once it's been removed i''ll cut through where it's a bit more solid & then it should be easy to identify the type of timber.
Any tips for the colour of the wood finish & did the originals have green edges with black top & bottom?
