Since I'm almost finished with my restoration of the Mamod SE3 G&G (just waiting for a new whistle) I started with the cleanup of my Bowman m122.

I've decided not to paint anything, not even the firebox.
Let's start with a before pic:

It's not in very bad shape

It came apart in quite a lot of bits:

A lot more bits than a mamod
The cylinders are also quite a lot bigger than the mamod cylinders.

Next thing to do is get everything cleaned with brasso (I hope I'm not running out of it)

The cleanup of this engine is almost complete, but i'm having some dificulties putting it back together again.
I can't seem to get the screws together with the spings on the cylinders. Any tips how to do this?

TWANG and off they shoot across the room.

Only thing I found that works so far is persistence. Could do with some form of jig to compress the spring while you screw the cylinders on.

I do it by pulling the spring back onto the pin with my left index finger nail, and then screw the nut on with my right hand. You need strong nails for that though.

Yes they are tighter! I found the best way was to get the cylinder port face loosesly screw into the frames and the spring trunnion screwed in tightish and then slide the covers on!

I still needed to post the "after" pics:

I've repaired the missing pice to the chiney this way:

It's a piece of Heat shrink tubing. It doesn't look very beautiful, but it works great! It's got quite a dent in it now, but it gets softer once it's getting hot.
