Just to prove that the Bowman advert was not total fiction :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKSVEO-V0i8

The moment I saw this toy sewing machine on Ebay, I couldn't resist the temptation to make this video. Unfortunately, the handle doesn't have a pulley to belt drive directly so I had to make a mecanno "hand".

Definatly runs it Roly! a Bowman won't let you down (unless it belongs to Mamodman)

Have you tried sewing something yet?

The sewing machine does work but not very reliably. It misses a lot of stiches. If I can work out how it works, I'll have a go at fixing it.

Roly,

That is quite a piece of work...you have CONFIRMED the myth that a Bowman 101 could do the deed, and via a pretty direct connection at that, no multi gearing at all.

Bravo...all Bowman owners can stand a bit taller today!!!

cheers,
Rog

Oh yes Roly.

Hope mine runs as well as yours when it's finished.

Sheer power and great to see.

Can't beat a bit of Bowman.

Great video Roly. We had not heard the myth or the advert but now we know the truth from your video.

Some of theearly Bowman adverts show an M101 powering a real full size sewing machine - and I'm sure it has the power to do so.

Roly, YouTube says the video isn't there - any chance you could stick it on photobucket as well, or email me a copy?
(edited 30/4 - I can see it now! Great stuff!)

In the meantime, here's the ad:

A "nice heavy singer" would also be better made and engineered than the toy Roly was running. So maybe it wouldn't need so much more power to run the real thing.

You're a star Roly.

Fantastic to see an engine hooked up to a practical tool.
