Been in the shed for several years and seeing all the flat bases on here gave me the urge to retrieve it. Can you identify the model and year etc and what type ,etc, of burner. If you could put up a couple of good pics of the burner and give some measurements I will try and manufacture one . Thanks

Nice engine Crank, it has sooo much potential.

It's a Mamod Flatbase SE1, with a brass flywheel

Date would be about 1950 - 1952.

It should have an exhaust to the chimney, and a 3 wick burner.

I can't grab the dimensions just now, but the 3 wick burner in this picture is what it should have.

Thanks very much to both of you . I think I will try and find a canister of suitable size and manufacture one. What sort of things would you swap it for now you have mentioned it Tony

What I really want is a burner for my Luton Bowman PW203 but I'm guessing you don't have one of those spare.

Other than that I'm not really sure, something steam related that takes my fancy and isn't that easy to get hold of I guess of equal value.

It's a 1949-53 Mamod SE1.

1946 had a base mounted chimney with exhause to the chimney, laste 46 was the same but boiler mounted chimney. The same for 1947. In 48 it had a spoked flywheel, and then this model 1949-53, then 54 had mazak flywheel, 55 they had a raised base.

I think that's how it goes!

Yeah they did ,mate. Some had wood feet too, but sure that one had rubber feet.

They were just a rubber disc, something like what is screwed on to the bottom of a PC Tower, or stereo etc

But on the engine they were held on by eyelets, so as to allow the feet in each corner to have a hole in them, matching up with the baseplate hole.

I checked out hardware stores, and found the round disc feet, but they were stick on, and very expensive. No chance of finding eyelets either.

I considered using old rubber car floor mats to punch out my own feet, but no mats were thick enough.
In the end I settled for these. They are stick on, so what I did was utilise the adhesive, and used correct super glue to fit them. Then if I want can drill a hole in them later

I found them in Bunnings hardware store. Just a note, if you find these. Don't waste your time cutting each one out carefully as a circle. I did, and then at the end found out they push out as a perfect circle anyway

Hope that helps

That's been the unanswered question for us outside of the UK

In the UK, it's Ford Highland Green.

Over here, well I haven't found anything close, other than getting a custom mix.

Thanks to another member (Chuck), this was the closest I have seen from another car manufacturer.

Surf Green, Chevy.
