Just won a Cyldon 13/1 on ebay. It needs a bit of work to get it back into working condition, a new safety valve for starters. As it was such a nice day today I thought I'd play with my other two Cyldons and take some photos.
The Cyldon 13/1 in need of a bit of TLC!

| That's a great group John! The steam pipe on Cyldons seems to have a bigger diameter than on most engines. Does the exhaust vent from the back of the block? |

The exhaust vents from the rear end of the block rather than the rear face as on most other engines. Not easy to explain I'll try and get a close up photo. The steam pipe is also larger than normal as well.
Cyldons were really solidly made with silver soldered boilers, and the burner is a work of art. They run well too - I love 'em |

A couple of photos showing the unusual exhaust port arrangement on the Cyldons.

I wonder why they did that! Always cool to see the many different ways of doing things.
Your cyldon looks marvelous, great work, John. Everytime I see one of these I can't help
thinking, "it's just begging for another boiler strap!" _________________ -Chuck

Thanks for the pictures John. I woder why they did that? It would have been much easier just to drill the hole straight through. Nice touch though... it'll probably look better when its running with the exhaust coming out of the end?
Chuck, I know exactly what you mean about the boiler strap... I always think that too! |
