Hello to you all, new member here as I have only just discovered this forum while rekindling my obsession with steam (amongst my many other obsessions).
For the past 16 years I have been the proud owner of a Mamod TE1a that has been so well looked after that it still looks new, save for the rather sorry state of the burner tray.
Have just recently bought another TE1a that I am going to extensively renovate and rebuild (I purposely bought a nearly new one so not to waste a vintage one) and a rather pretty Mamod SL2 train set. My partner had to go through rather a large amount of 'It's blue!' and fake whistle sounds during the ebay auction.
I hope I can learn much from the experienced lot here, and show off what few skills I have (which is normally achieving things without the proper tools and on a very tight budget, like attempting to build a double acting slide valve engine with no lathe, pillar drill or milling machine)
Now be prepared for my many questions...

Welcome to the forums

You can't go wrong with a TE1a! fantastic little runners

SL2 set? wow, only just over 1000 made of those, rare indeed and in my opinion the best loco Mamod made

Your project sounds very interesting, we need to see plans, and pictures and that includes the Mamods too!

I hope you enjoy the forums!

Cheers! Mamodman

Many thanks! I have already posted a question about the SL2 in the forum as it unfortunatley requires a repaint as our greatest enemy 'rust' as attacked it.
Pictures and plans will appear soon, when I get a chance to scan and borrow a digi cam

Welcome to the forum! I think you'll find there are many like-minded people here, especially when it comes to making things without having the right tools. It just adds to the satisfaction when you succeed!
