Bit overdue but...

Hello my names is James Huntley i am 13 years old. I have been collecting steam engines since i was about 6. My first engine was a Mamod SP4 that my grandad bought me at a steam rally in Stanton Drew at the age of 4.

I live in Pensford on the outskirts of Bristol and on the edges of SOMERSET

. I go to Chew Valley School and am in year 8.

My main intrest is steam but anything that is old and mechanical intrests me. I love building stuff wether from meccano or from scratch.

I have a few projects on the go at the moment. The first one is building a 45mm narrow gauge garden railway. Called the Whitchurch Light Railway. I am also building a 2.5 inch gauge 0-4-0 ride behind loco from Rex Tingleys design in ME in 1970-1971. A RC mamod TE1a steam crane. And many more toy steam engines to restore.

I am a volunteer at the Bristol Industrial Museum. Which is where i have driven my first full size steam loco. And several other things.

One toy steam engine i would love as many of you already no is a Wilesco D32. Wich is my favourite toy steam engine.

On Boxing day about 3 years ago i appeared as the top collector on the junior auntiques roadshow with my engines. Not long after someones donated me a 4 cylinder steam engine needing work. Then a SR1a and trailer. Then a lady in wales contacted me through the BBC and donated (or as MM says pinched) me about 15 scratchbuilt engines.

Great to hear your story Jim and a belated welcome to the forum
Its great to see younger folk get interested in steam and old machinary.

Let me add my 2 cents worth that it IS great to see all you younger guys and a few gals with an interest in toy and full size steam...it is a wonderful heritage and a pretty cool thing to be the ones who carry it on. At one time I thought this hobby would die with all us older folks, but NO...there is another generation perhaps even more addicted than we. Hope you find your elusive Wilesco D32...they pop up occasionally on US eBay.com, be sure to check that regularly.

Im kicking myself again for another D32 lost oppurtunity. About a month ago one went on Ebay for £150 with no boiler.

Making a boiler wouldnt have been very hard as the 2 endplates were there along with a firebox and the electric heaters. I wouldnt have used the heaters but would have converted to gas firing.

Yes but for £150 you cant go far wrongh. The boiler wouldnt have been that hard to make. It wouldnt be an accurate replica but it would do.
