Well, kind of hate to do it, but I've just listed a nice Jensen #5 cast iron based engine on eBay. Listing gives all the details including a few minor flaws.
http://cgi.ebay.com/Jensen-5-Stea...PageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
It is a lovely engine that runs well and has had minimal restoration consisting of fresh factory color blue on the engine base. Listing has more pics and a video just taken of it running.
cheers,

....now I want to replace mine
...either your flywheel is on backwards or mine is. My PTO is on the cylinder side of the engine. Could be an unusual factory variance, eh? _________________

Sheesh Mr O, I would think that you could find a better excuse to reduce the price.
If I did not have a small fortune invested in Steam engines for Corrupt Postal Workers I would be right on top of that one.
It sure is a beauty. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

Glad I read this. I was going to put a show-of-my-good-taste bid on it otherwise
Mine has a nicer (cloth) power cord ;P
Though if that's a new production aluminum chimney, I am in awe of Mr IR's mad polishing skills
(Psst Mr Reid: replacement SV too ) _________________

Guys and gals (you too Ranger!!).
I need to let this auction run it's course and fetch what it will fetch from the highest bidder. YES, I am in the process of restoring another #5...a riveted version, which will replace this one in the Temple when I finish it in the coming week...I need to offset some of that cost by realizing the full value of this one. Rivets don't come cheap when they adorn a Jensen boiler.
YES Mr. O...that is a run of the mill Jensen aluminum replacement stack polished to a handsome, almost nickel like finish. No big secret on how...just a blob of SimiChrome polish on a few paper towels and rub/twist them for about 3 minutes. The result is virtually indistinguishable from the original nickel plated brass chimneys Jensen put on back in the forties. If you have such an aluminum Jensen chimney, give it a try with most any metal polish, you will be delighted (and your hands will turn black).
There's another tip John!!!
YES...it does have a newer safety valve on it...the original was for show/photo only and won't hold a head of steam any longer given a weak spring...but it stays in the Temple, so photo shows exactly what buyer gets.
cheers,

Can't wait to see the riveted 5, then
Huh...that copper brick #5 held at $51 and didn't meet reserve. Guy should have let foreigners bid
Not nearly as nice as this one here anyway _________________

In today's day and age, NOT letting folks from outside your home country bid on an auction will always hurt the final price you get. I think if one insists on PayPal for outside of country auctions, everyone is protected (in fact, more and more I am liking PayPal for in country auctions...it DOES give you recourse if something goes bad).
Stay tuned for a future rivet revival...paint and polyurethane is drying now (at least the first coats).
Cheers,

I wish I had the common sense to advertise that 1946-7 SE1 of mine outside OZ, I'll know better next time.
That looks like a really nice engine Rog, and I need something to complement my brass boiler45 and my 75, hmmmm
Cheers

Guys and gals, for those of you unfamiliar with the old Jensen #5 - it is probably the fastest, strongest running single cylinder single acting engine I've ever seen - the wow factor is unbelievable. The one Rog has on is particularly nice because it has the big cast iron flywheel, rather than the later alloy one. If any UK member here is worried about the voltage conversion thing, drop me a line.
Also would like to add that when you deal with IndianaRog, you don't have to worry about things like quality, packing etc.....my 4 Jensen pieces, 2 Empires and several other goodies are all ex-temple, and nothing has ever been lost or damaged in transatlantic posting. _________________ Stands the glass half empty,

I do believe that I saw that one personally and it is a beauty. I do not think that I saw anything at the temple that looked less than stellar. Oh well, all of those Corrupt Postal Workers will just have to wait longer before I can bid on one. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |
