Having been a member of the forum for a week or two I think I should follow my friend Mooseman’s lead and introduce myself as well. I’m John Chapman and I am originally from St Columb Minor, just outside Newquay, in Cornwall. Last year I retired from a career as a telecommunications engineer. At the moment I Live with Jenny, my wife, near Nottingham, however, we are hoping to return to Cornwall in the near future.

My first steam engine was an SEL Minor, which I received for Christmas back in 1955. My second one was an SEL Minor, which I bought at Steam Toys In Action in 2004. My collection has been growing ever since.

Like Odilon my main interest is British made engines and my collection includes examples by Bowman, SEL, Mersey Models, Latimer, Burnac and Mamod. All my engines (except a Crescent No.1) are runners. Some are in original condition and sone I have restored. I get a great deal of pleasure in turning a pile of junk back into a a working engine. In addition to the British engines I also have a few early German examples and I am particularly fascinated by the very early German “Dreibeiners”

My collection is presented on my website, please drop by and please feel free to let me have any comments.

I like the pictures of your models on your site John, particularly the Bowmans. Very difficult to find decent Bowman pictures

John, isn't there a picture of you on Mooseman's site at the STIA2006 with your engines?

That is nothing to do with you James

I mean they are ADULTS James.

You keep banging on about wanting this forum to grow and then you keep posting insulting remarks to new members A few days ago you were bloody rude to Odilon and now you are having a pop at Roly and John

If you want to keep this group as a small chatroom for you and you mates just keep going as you are, new members will soon get fed up with you.

Well I'm not sure where all this come about

Asking of age might be a occasional question striking converstation with new members. Afterall this is "meet the members" section. I don't think James meant any harm by it, and it didn't need a blunt response. His post with the smiley with sunnies reads to me as a casual question.

It's clear too that his post about food in the beard was a joke, not serious, and not intended to insult. I know a few people with beards that have made that comment saying it's "an advantage". Yes, joking.

If you are refering to James's mates as us, members from the old forum, or regular posters, than yeah, I consider him as a mate as others here who I get to know. But it's a steam forum, with some fun, and a hell of a lot of Steam topics. Not just a chatroom for mates.

I didn't see the rudness toward odilon, so can't comment.

But all in all, reading this whole thread shows no offence was intended by James.

We don't usually get things like this happening here, and on the old boards I'd stay out of it.
But this was one that just wanted to comment on.
And before any comments are made about me being a mate, sticking up for James. Well no, it isn't, I would have done it for a newbie here where I saw fit.

I don't think any offence was intended there Billy. James was having a bit of light humour and as far as I know there was no offence caused

I'll also say I didn't outright hear/see James saying anything about Mooseman but I can't imagine it would have been a personal insult.

As the forums are growing with a few new members (probably more than the old forums) so i'm extremly happy with the work done here so far. For someone of James' age to be running a whole forum is incredible stuff. If anything he doesn't get enough credit for his work.

There have been motions put in place to expand the forums as much as we can, and I seriously look forward to meeting and greeting new members
