Had a bit of an ebay frenzy tonight and got me a few locos for the collection.
Most pleased with this one, a new design Mamod Jubilee Locomotive. So now we can have an official test run to see what these things are capable of. I could even have a time trial race with Pandora and her new IP boiler.
Next best tonight is this SL2...
Then there is this nice SL1...
Now, I think the one with the most potential is this SL3. Its in a bit of a state and has a strange chimney but it only cost me £25!
And then there is this interesting example. At first glance I thought it was a SL1K. But the roof has rivets in it and the painwork looks like it has been repainted. It also has an uprated safety valve and pistons and piston covers. So I am looking forward to getting this one to see exactly what I have.
All in all a most agreeable evening.
Now I all I have to do is take my life in to my own hands and tell the wife how much I have spent
She really is going to kill me this time
So this coule well me my last posting

Actually she's just came back from a night out on a business function and was a bit pi**ed, and didn't seem to mind to much.
Result I think I got away with it!!!
Just don't let her know, right

What a great collection of locos to own. These were not all on ebay though? (Just found them now - you must have got these just after they were posted, as I did not see them last night).
Looks like you have the connections to get Mamod locos cheap - I'm looking for one to convert to IP Jane bodywork so just need a rolling chassis with cylinders, regulator/reverser, wheels & smokebox (I have a boiler to fit). Know of any likely candidates available for sale?

I would like to go into the loco buisness too. But I'm not using and overly expensive mamods. More like buy cheap engines like 2 D-10s and then make 1 loco out of it. I wish I had the room, who knows what I can modify on a mamod loco. _________________ Best Regards, Ranger Moore |

Wow, where did you find all those locos at such great prices.
I'm after a second Mamod that I plan to hack and upgrade like my SL2 but havent managed to find a cheap on yet.
Don't want to pay too much for one as I will be replacing wheels, cylinders, SV and burner. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Just got an eye for a bargin I suppose, although I paid a £212 for the Newer loco and the SL2 was £70, the SL1 £50, the SL3 £25, and the odd black one £45. So I'm not sure I would say they were cheap!
I will keep the New one for now, unless its not a very good runner.
The SL2 is for the collection.
I will see if I can salvage the SL3. I might only be able to get a straight chimny for it to replace the odd looking thing on it at present. If so, I could convert it to G1 45mm scale and pretend it is one of the very rare special editions that were made for the G1 Scale society! Has anyone got a spare conicle brass chimny and a back for a SL3 they want to sell?
The SL1 I will keep and swap for my current one and probably sell that one now.
The black one, well depends what it terns out to be abd what parts it has. This one may be stripped of some bits and therefore, Chris & Tony, you might be interested! If not, I will keep a lookout for suitable canidates for you. I might be going to the Midland Model Engineering Show this weekend and there may be a few gems there.

I willing to go up to about 70 pounds plus postage (around 15 pounds) so a loco to rebuild but so far have missed all the cheap ones. |
I'll see what the situation is when everything turns up and get back to you on that one.
What do you plan to do?

Reguage to 45mm, replace cylinders with IP 45mm uprated, uprated SV, roundhouse lubricator, change to centre buffers, meths burner (May make that myself) and lapp the regulator and may fit a decent regulator at a later date.
Basically my other Mamod my oldest son has adopted as his so I need another for my youngest. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

As you say you have been very lucky with your timings on ebay.
Please check your PMs reference Loco spares.

Yep, but it will need a shed load of work done to it. Any idea where I can get a brass conicle chimny from.
Or, what about my idea to convert it to a G1 45mm scale and add a straight chimny, thus turning it into a G1 Scale Society special edition, as mentioned in the Bannerworks review. Or is there somethingh else about this special edition that would be needed.
Also, do you know what colour red the SL3 is for when I come to respray it please?
