Ok first off sorry for the low reso video...I forgot to select the better size ...This was a end of the night job.

I made a genny from a carbon brushed dc toy motor and encased it in brass to spiff it up.

Then mounted a large Tamiya pulley to the MM2 just by shimming the flywheel out and screwing the pulley on through the flywheel hole...worked perfect and easy to remove.

I first drove 9 white LEDs in a cluster from a old flashlight....Then I thought.......hmmmmmmm What about a small train?

This is on meths direct wired to genny...no speed control.

Jim, that is just plain cool!!!  Hard to believe it would drive a train, but proof positive!!!

That should look nice around a Christmas tree if you don't set the tree on fire!!

Cool, I think Peter SantaMaria powered an HO with a Stepper, but your MM2 really did the job right.

A new meaning for a steam train, very cleverly done.

It works!

Good idea. What is the pully ratio and how many poles is the motor?

Dr.. the ratio is pretty close to 4 1/2 to 1

The motor is a 3 pole as far as i know.....I only popped it open enough to see the brushes and verify the carbon ends.

I just culled through my stash and found a good carbon brushed one so it will last longer and gave it a try.

It makes the Old girl work hard....and takes full tilt to run the train....

Thanks for the comments fellas!  Its all in fun......sooner or later just seeing a flywheel turn gets old and I (we) start getting creative.

Wonderful - 12 to 14 poles per revolution, nice small genny.

I have pretty much all I need to copy you. I think my smallest N-guage loco should need less current so there is some room for drops in efficiency.

Thnaks for the inspiration, imitation is the best form of flattery.

Those new 5-poles are very efficient, that could certainly contribute to success.
