Mamod steam engines speed tests

Engine speed RPMs
Certain engines in my collection where not tested such as sp1 me1 and disc crank because either there is no where to attach the tape or they are in mint condition.


MEC1/Meccano steam engine
Average speed: 2341 RPM
Peak speed: 3086 RPM


SP2
Average speed: 2457 RPM
Peak speed: 3437 RPM



SP3
Average speed: 2168 RPM
Peak speed: 2380 RPM



SP4
Average speed: 1804 RPM
Peak speed: 2021 RPM



SP5
Average speed: 1618 RPM
Peak speed: 2009 RPM



SP6
Average speed: 1805 RPM
Peak speed: 2545 RPM


1958 SE1
Average speed: 2542 RPM
Peak speed: 2822 RPM


SE3 later type with spring whistle
Average speed: 1175 RPM
Peak speed: 1642 RPM


70s MM2
Average speed: 2038 RPM
Peak speed: 2277 RPM

1953 MM2 flat base
Average speed: 1199 RPM
Peak speed: 1287 RPM


SEL standard
Average speed: 2170 RPM
Peak speed: 3057 RPM


SR1A 2006 version
Average speed: 1678 RPM
Peak speed: 2068 RPM

Definatly a consistancy throughout the SP range, all scoring very near eachother.

Interesting to see the SE3, didn't get up to speed there Lewis, did it seem slower than the others or not? Mine averages around 2600 steady. Peaks well over 3000 so something went wrong there.

The one thing I want to see is how slow you can get the SP6, please Lewis I did ask

The SP4 looks a little slow for a G&G version, maybe it's not run in enough yet? although consistant for the SP range. The SP5 did almost the same as mine, did pretty well, considering the bigger/heavier flywheel too!

got the sp6 to 62 rpm slowest it can go slower still i think

My SE3 went about that slow, surely you can get it much slower than that?
