Mamod or Bowman - or others that I am not aware of are all considered- in need of restoration or not. Stateside or UK. Vertical or horizontal. I have to say that I am smitten with doing a boat.!!!! And I won't be happy till I get to sail 'er So, Argggggg- Matey The boat size I want to have is 24" or so. So not tiny !!
All of you with photos in the Launches section are to blame.
There is so much more to engage in - the engine and boiler configuration - the boat itself- wrapping the pipes or just silicone tubing --I have a hunt on for a boat here in the US - but there is very, very few marine engines- So- I am watching the auctions ( US and UK etc) but would be happy to also buy from a member..... So if you find yourself with just too many and would consider orphaning one off...
As always - thanks _________________ regards,

Mo...shame you didn't post your interest a week ago. There was a lovely Stuart ST marine setup complete with boiler listed on US eBay for $130 USD BIN. That was some quality hardware for a great price. _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |

Thanks Roger,
Oh well - that is always the case it seems. I surf ebay a lot - but any helpful eyes or if any members have a set up all is welcomed.
I almost kind of hope that one needing a little love comes up... I like to work and learn-- that is most of the fun!! _________________ regards,

Dear mogogear,
I'm avidly trying to acquire a steam launch at present too. Living in the Virgin Islands this is probably the most exciting steam powered piece we can own.
I bought the Elliot Bay Steam Launch tonight, complete package, from the same website Bogstandard referred you to. Boat, engine, RC, paint Kit. glue ,etc. The price for everything was around $300.
Whilst I am completely in awe of his 42" Victoria with the Cheddar Puffin engine, I decided it best to start with something smaller. He told me the time investment in a launch like his was between 500 and 1000 hours. The captal investment could also be close to $2,000.00.
I do not have that kind of time and feel I should test the waters, (as it were), with something smaller prior to making that kind of capital investment.
I may, however, still bid on the Luton Bowman Snipe. _________________ Richard

Richard,
Glad you have decided to try before you buy.
When you do eventually decide to go for a 'biggie', a fairly new American company has started to manufacture steam plants for the upper class range of model boats.
http://www.monahansteammodels.com/steamplants.aspx
Can I put you down for half a dozen at ONLY just over $3000 each?
But please be aware that they are CAD images, and I have just had a run in with him over the use of superheaters with displacement lubricators. Buyer beware.
John

There was a Mamod marine 3, I believe (the SEL engine unit), that went a few days ago for under $100
...Ah we could fill a bag with If Only's and still be left holding an empty bag.. _________________

Mo...I second Mr. O's comment. The SEL marine engine was used on "some" of the Mamod marine setups...it is a beautiful little engine and well worth looking out for. Check Mooseman's website to see his in action...solid brass affair with a chunky piston. Moose incorporated into his Arrow boat build and it pushes that boat with finesse.

Just to re-iterate-
I am still on the prowl for a single oscillator engine for Boat #1- with an an oiler a plus... US to avoid more shipping another plus- but a nice SEL / Mamod 3 would do the job...or a home built...Moose says "no Units " I think......
Got a boiler I can make work --"I think " says the "JUNIOR" member _________________ regards,
