This isn't toy steam but I hope you don't mind me showing you my Meccano Constructor Cars. These were made by Meccano in the 1930's and are a sort of kit car. Each box had enough bits to allow you to build the car 4 different ways. Meccano made these cars in 2 sizes and this pair of cars are the smaller No1.

This first car (yellow green)  is boxed and has most of it's contents. The second car (blue cream) I got just as it is.

I hope you like them.

Thanks John. I agree. Marklin also seem to have made a car like this but I don't know the date and Chad Valley had a go in the 1950's.

But these Meccano cars do seem a bit special. I'd love to own a copy of the larger model and, I guess, one day......

Rare (ish). I guess just like with toy steam, if boxed, with all parts etc then rare. To find a car by itself is not to hard. They seemed to be made between about 1933 and 1939. They made the cars in lots of different colour schemes and again some are rarer than others.

The main difference that I can think of is re-painting. With toy cars it's a total no no and reduces value by as much as 95%.

I always loved them and the Meccano aeroplanes but the prices they fetch has always kept them out of my reach

Manx what size are the number 1s?

Somewhere in our attic is one just like your green one. The dates are spot on,
my Dad would have been age 8 to 14 in those years and I know he had it from new.

I think its quite a size, but honestly not sure.
I do know the white tyres are a bit soggy and flat sadly

My dads as bad as me at disposing of anything, probably just as well really

After STIA sometime i will have a look, though the attics quite a mess

Thanks for your comments guys. I kind of figured some on the forum would like them. I do plan to add a No2 at some point but these things are expensive so I'll have to wait the right one to come along.

I wouldn't want to even start to think about all the different colours the cars were made in. I think an Orange and Green No2, is the hardest model to find.

Are you planning on getting a plane too or just the cars?
