Left to right:
Bowman-Luton Snipe ca 1948, fully restored.
Bowman of Dereham Snipe ca 1930, part restored.
Krick Victoria based launch with a "Bogstandard" engine - modern.
Midwest Fantail Launch, modern
Hobbies "Arrow", modern.
In front: two poppops...the one on the right bought from a certain Lincolnshire entrepreneur.....
Both Snipes were eBay purchases...the Luton one was in a very bad way, looked like it had been buried in soft peat for about 40 years, but most of the engine was complete. It required a full repaint and lots of small parts making.
The Dereham Snipe was in good nick, but missing spray hood, rear deck and burner - the paint on the woodwork and the boiler cowl was in great nick, as was the engine. This boat's a great runner.
The krick boat is my biggest project. It is now seaworthy and sail extremely well. The engine was made by John "Bogstandard" Moore, a former aviation engineer, and is quite extrordinary....on the face of it it is a simple double acting oscillator, but it is a long stroke engine and made to such exact tolerances that it is quite incredibly powerful.
The Midwest was a swap with manxman for a Wilesco roller. The boat had been partly finished, but was completely stripped down and rebuilrt by myself - the engine was built from a kit, loads of fun.
The Hobbies Arrow was made from scratch by myself during a period when I was recovering from a serious illness. It has been fitted with a gas-fired Bowman 135 boiler and a SEL marine engine courtesy of IndianaRog - a great reliable perfromer.
The modern boats are all RC - the Midwest and Arrow rudder only, but the big boat has full control and an RC whistle.....a huge crowd pleaser.
Lastly, the poppop boats....for what you pay for them, these things are so much fun it's indecent. Every toy steamer should have at least one. If you haven't got one yet, get one right now _________________ Nid wy’n gofyn bywyd moethus,

Wow, what a collection Moose.
Do you think the Midwest kit is easy enough to build? _________________ Forum Founder, Owner and Admin.

| The Krick really is big isn't it? I hadn't realised quite how big! Will it be at STIA? |

Thanks for the comments guys....in answer to your questions:
-The Midwest kit looks reasonably easy to build, but I didn't build the hull, that was already mostly done. Building the engine was easy enough, just a few tricky bits of soldering.
-I don't think the big boat will come to STiA, because it's a big and heavy beast to handle - it would take up a table on its own. I also think it'll be too big and fast for the STiA pond.
-Jimbo, the tugboat came from you, the red one was bought at STiA 2006. _________________ Nid wy’n gofyn bywyd moethus,
