I don't really have too much to show, but let's start with the verticals.  I'll post the horizontal engines later.

Verticals:

Robert Fulton Line (left) and Weeden Model 400 (right)

Robert Fulton:

Mamod grinder for handy size comparison.

Cast metal double acting cylinder, and counterweight crank.

Weeden 400 (ca. 1937)

Nickel plated lead-alloy flywheel.

Maker's tag.

Some shots prior to polishing:

Cast cylinder and steam chest.  Single acting, every upstroke is the power stroke.

70 years old and all it needed was a gasket and some oil...

Short video:

I don't own this one anymore, but for your benefit, here are a couple pictures of a Major Toy Red Injun from Ecorse Michigan ca. 1949

I've already posted these videos before, but I'll put them here because they're relevant and I've never had them in the same thread.

Robert Fulton, water was brought up to a boil, then unplugged.  The engine is running entirely on residual heat for the duration of this video:

And just a short clip of the Weeden:

I'll post the rest of my engines later  today.

Now how about a Line-Mar:

Obvious Fleischmann influence in this toy.

In action.

Disassembled.

This is an early version with a tin boiler (which was rusted through and patched with solder in many areas) and no plastic parts.  Later versions had a brass boiler, but plastic big end, crank and pulley!
These engines sold for about $5 when new! (around $30 in today's dollars).

Mamod SE2A.  I unfortunately sold this engine recently to pay for some books for school.

Bit dirty here, but it ran very well.  I'll put some more pics of it up much later...

Very smooth quiet runner, ran better in reverse than forward though.  I liked the hammered finish on the engine and the old style whistle especially.

Yes, when I first got it I was surprised - I ordered it off of ebay, and a box much larger than I expected showed up one day - with a correspondingly much larger than expected engine inside!

Another question mate.

The engine with the spoked flywheel which is still solid... is it supposed to be like that? I've never seen one before! Like it's not been machined?

The Linemar was made that way to cut build expense.

I think this will be my last engine, unless I can find pics of my wilesco D6 (everything is packed away back home 2000 miles away from where I am) soooo - here it is, my Jensen 60.  The first engine I ever got:

And powering an erector set thingy I made...

I still have more pics to come though.

Very nice Weeden and happy you posted the Major Toy Red Injun-never seen one before and had never heard of the brand.  Also as old as I am.

Thanks Red!

So I thought we'd get into the weird territory: Mamod and Meccano

Steam Traveler 1:

Maybe I'll be the only one with a front wheel drive SE2A at the tables.

But wait, there's more coming...

...The dangerously tipsy Red Injun powered roving factory:

I wish I would have made videos of these before I took them apart...
Anyway I'll show the wackiest of all the vehicles I made tonight... see y'all later.

Here it is:

The was based off of the design of Brunton's Mechanical Traveller - an early locomotive (I believe from about 1813 or thereabouts) which used mechanical legs - rather than its wheels to propel itself over the tracks.
