My cat just caught a baby rabbit.

Now rabbits are a pest in my country and they cause huge amounts of damage to the land.

The rabbit is still alive but in shock and will most likely die.

I shouldn't release it if it recovers and no animal haven would take it as its classified as an introduced pest .

So if it recovers I've most likely ended up with a pet rabbit.

My kids will be happy but I won't be................

I at first thought she had caght a Quenda which up until a few years ago was on the threatened list, now that would of really upset me if she had.

But as soon as I got a good look at it I new it wasn't.

This is a Quenda and they live in my back yard.

Rabbits are poop machines....

Had some as a kid....

They are also quite boring ..in my opinion.

Good luck with the little ones...they all love animals and want to keep em.

I had guinea pigs as a kid and I'm trying to avoid having anything like that to be honest.
Too smelly to have in the house and could attract snakes if kept outside.

Rabbits can actually be house pets and are able to learn to poop in a proper place the way cats and dogs learn.

IS there a humane society in your area? Most places have someone who will take in orphaned wild animals.
A grown Rabbit can kill a Cat in little to no time.

As Tony says, no animal haven would take it as it's classified as an introduced pest.
No, let's accept it, Tony has a new pet.

I don't think it will make it through the night to be honest.
I've got it in a box with an old towel in a quiet dark place to help it get over the shock but it hasn't moved since I put it in the box so I suspect it may have a broken back. But I guess it could just be the shock keeping it still.

I will see what it is like in the morning.

Well its still alive and it has movement in all its limbs so it's back can't be broken but its still in shock, although it looks a bit better than last night.

It'll be good for the kids if it survives. I hope it does.

The effects of shock to a rabbit can be delayed for about 48hrs. It actually effects their digestion system. Only know this as my ex was a rabbit freak

when I was a kid someone hit a rabbit with their car then left it on our doorstep, it recovered and was kept as a pet for several years.

my entire family are pet lovers, me mum expecially who once dodged traffic to get a dog from the middles of a busy road
and me dad once found a tame white rat in an alley way while doing his bin rounds, brought it home and it lived for several years with my Aunt.
