It was back when i was about 6 years old and we boarded a train from Houston Texas bound for Pine Village Indiana. I celebrated my birthday there. PV was the birthplace of my mother. One of her childhood friends was a woman named Barb Brutus. She was married to a farmer... a farmer who collected steam tractors...Glenn Brutus.

I still remember my first time on a farm. climbing in the silos and barns and then seeing this collection of enormous tractors!!! He had about 10 at the time and they looked like battleships!! What a treat to clamber around these things.. they had sets of harrows they pulled that looked as if they could plow a swath a acre wide...

Take a look at this article- it sure brought back memories of that Summer I turned 6 in Pine Village!!

Go Pine Village Pine Knots( the name of their school basketball team:oops: )!!

My grandfather was the big cheese in town- he was the grain elevator operator there... They moved to Lapel later- then the whole family up and moved to Georgia in about 1949...

Gladden was the family name

Greg, I just finished reading the saga of that traction engine being brought back to life.  I have to agree with the authors, the feeling of satisfaction at such a thing must be enormous.

Thanks for the Pine Village memories...I can just picture a 6 year old amongst a barn full of old Case type engines...they would look absolutely enormous.
