Well the Mamod that had been converted to look like the George England 0-4-0stt that I won on ebay arrived today. Picked it up whilst I was in work and the boss very kindly got me a bottle of meths for it (dont tell him ) And 2 of the lads kept looking at it and asking a few questions about it at break time. Nice to see people showing an interest and not taking the micky.
Well as the ebay advert said it needs a new paint job. but other than that it seems ok. The sight glass has alot of oil contamination on it and there was emulsified(?) water on the safty valve too. gave the boiler a good was out and cleaded up all the running gear oiled it up and went for it. Its been that long since I ran my old mamod that i forgot how much fun they are.
The safty valve seemed to spew out an awful lof of water at presure before it started to blow off but in the end it sran quite hapily on blocks.
Ive taken some pics but not had chance to upload them yet as I couldnt shift the Mrs off the computer tonight (good job when she see's the state of the dining room table ) But hopefuly will get them on here tomorrow.
Taking it for a test run on my friends railway on saturday then its time for the big list of bits from IP. Now the bug has bit again I will have to start rebuilding my old mamod.

Thanks tmuir.
Shez already got a meths burner and uprated safty valve, but with the amount of emulsified water that was on it and the way it was squirting water out at presure through the safty valve I think I might invest in a new 1. A nice set of spoked wheeles would be nice but they are £37 from PPS and IP and only seem to do ordinary 1s.
As the body work needs a respray does anybody know what paint would be safe to use? |

I would use black heat proof paint for the boiler, BBQ or stove paint is fine, get the high temp ones though.
The rest of the engine any good quality paint should be ok.
I liked the spoked wheels too but decided they were just too expensive and ended getting the solid ones from IP. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Its going well.
I need to give the floor one final coat of paint before I can install it but its too windy here to paint at the moment. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

You're alright wil reletively low temp paint on the bodywork! I used some stuff I got in Halfords, its heat resistant to 150 deg C! But it doesn't get that hot as the chamber took most of the heat off the bodywork!
It sounds like you overfilled the boiler for it to throw out a lot of water, either that or you simply need a washer on the valve!
I can't speak for the wheels but they do look good! IF you want the upgraded pistons you'll need new wheels as the pins on the mamod ones are too short _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode

They had better not be, because if they are then it could put Titans appearance at MSTIA in doubt since I already have an upgraded set of wheels with pins the same as mamod, and I do not want to change them! _________________ It's a Mamod Jim, but not as we know it!

Well I just bought a pair of upgraded pistons from PPS Steam and the pins were definatly too short on my old Mamod wheels for the piston rods to connect. He said I needed longer pins so I ordered new wheels too _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode
