PostPosted: Tue Oct 09, 2007 9:53 am    Post subject: New Mamod Loco Prototype??? Reply with quote

I have been looking at pics of the new Mamod locos and am getting comfused.

There is the 'William' with slide valves as seen below...

I have also seen a 'Jubilee' loco in the brocure, which is red with slide valve...

Indeed, there is one on ebay at the moment...

However, the photo on the certificate that come with that loco seems to have a slightly different looking loco and the slide valve looks different...

I have also seen this photo on the web described as the Mamod 'Jubilee' locomotive, which looks more like the one on the certificate, but not the one in the brochure...

This one clearly has a very different and clumsy looking arrangement to the slide valve, as well as a different colour scheme.

I wonder if this and the one on the certificate are early prototypes of the current slide valve design loco??

Anyone know?

PS, I have asked John to scane me a better pic of the loco in the certificate and will post here.

Ah, thanks for that Mamodman, so the one with the odd valve arrangement was presumably not released for sale.

On the topic of prototypes, I remember reading, I think on your website, that before the SL1 was released in 1980, there was another rare prototype released that did not do so well on the market. Have you a pic of this please - would make a good entry on my website if there was a pic available.

There is a picture of this loco in the bible, it's only in black and white though. I've seen one maybe two for sale on ebay over the past 3-4 years. I didn't save the pictures though and I don't know the wherabouts of even one

I think the new locos work well but can't be regauged although they sell them in '0' and gauge '1'.
They are also not really suitable for RC as you have to maually roll them backwards to make them go the other way in the same way you have to spin a Wilesco flywheel the other way for reverse so you can't do that with RC.

Oh poop, no I havn't got the book. I suppose scanning or taking a photo would be a copyright problem. Ah well.

Has anyone else out there got a pic of an early loco propotype????

There is always the copyright issue neither is the picture in colour either.

I'll keep an eye out on ebay for one. You will notice it doesn't have a backcab and the mamod steam railway co. logo is missing. There is ther lining and then 'Mamod' in white writing
