Steam Pipes Above Or BeloW? (visible or not)
just want to know what people think about where steam pipes are.
Personally i like them visible, i feel it adds character to the engine...what ever it may be |

Has to be visible as it is part of the engine. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

I agree, as in a SE3 or similar. _________________ Les - Old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternatives.

Although under might look cleaner, if one ever needs to work on them, above the base makes repairs much easier, I vote for above. _________________ Your life is an occasion...Rise to it |

| Yes, everything should be visible and easy to get at IMHO. |

Yup. Being as I now have 3 Wilescos, and they all have the piping under the base, I would MUCH rather they be on top like my Jensen. I had to remove the steam pipe on my new-old engine (pics soon, and this time I remembered the before pics!) 50+ year old solder is a PITA to get loose, and trying not to damage the boiler or engine while you have it upsidedown trying to remove those *&%$#@#$% lines. You really need 3 hands. But... I am trying to keep the engines reasonably original, so I just have to cope!!
Sides.... I agree... you need to have more things on which to burn your fingers!!! |
