Below is a photo with my initial idea of how I will build my garden rail.
The red bit would be built first with the blue line happening at a later date should my budget allow it.
The big blue circle is for a frog pond that I've been wanting to build in that spot for about 4 years.
I will most likely neeed to raise the ground in a couple of spots and put some cuttings in other spots to minimise the gradients but I feel it is doable, it all just comes down to time and money.
Neither which I seem to have much spare of at the moment.

A good area there, you'll be able to have soem long trains and really let the engines open out - maybe fit them with R/C?
Where does the blue line go? |

The blue line wouldnt go much further than the photo shows.
If room permits I would put a tight loop on the end of the track so it could turn aroundand come back overwise a siding and let the engine shunt it back.
From the end of the blue line to the left had red line there is about 45cm difference in height so will need to look carfully on gradients.
Total height variation as the garden is now on the red line would be about 30cm.
But garden track has just hit a snag read my next post titled boiler bothers to see what. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Got a couple of books coming for Christmas on how to build a garden railway.
Once I've read the books I'll have more of an idea as to whats achievable.
Will be building my own track as by just buying the rail and making my own sleepers will cut the cost down to about 40% of price of LGB track. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Just a bit bigger than 45mm gauage.
What guage is it? It looks pretty big.
I haven't even raked the leaves off to start building my track yet still in the thinking and deciding phase of construction at the moment. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm
