Dear members it gives us great pleasure to announce the details of our very first Steam Toys World Wide Weekend.

It will take place over Saturday and Sunday 11th and 12th October.

We plan to run the event very much as a virtual S.T.I.A. along the following lines.

The event will have its own dedicated board. In that board there will be areas designated as the following.

1. The Main Shed. Where stationary engines, mobiles and workshops will be displayed. (Pics or videos)

2. The Loco Shed. For all those locos and rolling stock

3. The Maritime Shed. For our growing steam boat enthusiasts to show their pride and joy.

4. The Event Chat Shed.

When you post in any of the first three sheds, your post or posts will become your table or tables, and members will be able to wander back and forward among the tables as they would at any steam event and chat to the owner about his particular display. Remember, every item no matter how small will help to make the weekend a success, so don't be afraid to get in there.

The chat shed will be used to have a chat about how you think the event is going, or indeed any subject.

Just as you would talk to friends about things other than steam at a normal event, the thread will have no restrictions as to content. Drop in and chat all you like.

Event Competition.

The winner of the prize SE3 will be the member judged to have made the best overall contribution to the event. It will be decided by a tribunal of judges consisting of Steve_S, Mooseman and Roly Williams. Their decision will be final and I'm sure they are going to have a tough job.

Also, over the weekend, the team, as well as taking part, will be scrutinising the tables and making honorary awards for best in show categories from each shed. The winners in each shed, will carry the title best in show till next year. Depending how the first event goes, we will look at providing  trophies next year, that would be held by the winners for that year.

Remember that the event will take place over two days, so don't put all your eggs in one basket the first day.

Finally, we know that this is an ambitious undertaking. Nothing as big as this has been attempted in the virtual toy steam world before. A virtual steam rally on a global scale is truly unique in steam toy circles. We are not arrogant enough to assume that it will be a resounding success, as the format and indeed the whole concept is as yet untried.

So there it is folks. We hope that we will have a great weekend and that all will go well.

Good luck to all who enter the competition, and get started on all of those projects, pics, vids and stories.

Sandman, for Steve_S and the Forum Team

I was on vacation when the original posts for the event took place and was wondering about the pictures and videos.

Should all pictures and videos be taken during just the 2 days of the event? (Nothing pre-filmed)

Nick, no, pre-prepared stuff is fine.... that's what I intend to do with mine. But 'nearly live' contributions will be welcome too!

It's a great idea. I'm totally rubbish at all this tech stuff but that seems easy enough for even me to take part.   I'm in and I'd like to book my table now. Can I have one near the Bar.

Believe it or not Manx, you've caught the mood perfectly.

Nothing too complicated and a bundle of interest and fun.

I think it's also a great way of getting the thought processes going.

I've got a few ideas rolling around my head already.

I'm in!

I can do almost live using picture posting, and Youtube.

I have figured out how to make the movies pretty quick.  Keep them really simple.  Try to make them in one shot, no stopping.  Then save them in a medium resolution, drop in a title, and credits.

Upload.  Done!!  Oh yeah.. post the embedded stuff on the forum.

Has anyone considered making sure the servers for this will handle all the traffic?  Maybe alert the system admins?

This will produce a LOT of line traffic.

I might also ask, beg, that people learn to keep photos at 800X600 or smaller as I bet there will be photo intense threads and the scrolling could make it unpleasant for many viewers.

I don't want publicity.  It will drive up the prices of the stuff we already can not afford.  Then the hobby can go over to those with money.
Let them find the hobby themselves like the rest of us!!

How many of us have been sniped on Ebay.  Look at that sausage maker for 307 dollars!!!!  I don't want any more competition!!!

*grumble*
