|
|
I have a Wilesco D32 el and need some information about it. Specifically, I'm looking for anybody that may have disassembled one and, if I'm really lucky, might have taken pictures as they did so. Short of that, any plans or parts diagrams would also be extremely helpful. While my engine is pretty well mint, the tachometer is not working and I want to see how the durn thing works before I go mucking around taking stuff apart. I have been in touch with Roger Goodnow, Odilon Marcenaro and Owen Roberts, but none of these fine gentlemen have been able to help me. My engine runs just fine on air but I'm having to wait until I get a step-up transformer to be able to steam it since it's European 220v. Thanks for any help.

I used to have a old wilesco D16, and most everything is screwed down, so the case for the tach and throttle should come right off. You should not have to worry much about taking the tach area apart, the only areas you should worry about are the boiler and cylinder. If it runs fine on air, it should run fine on steam, wilescos are pretty good runners, not exactly the highest tourqe engine, but I have seen a 32 run over 40 accesories at once though. _________________ We know return you to your regularly scheduled drinking |

The D32 was only made for a short time in the 1970s - it was Wilesco's biggest engine, I have seen them and instructions come up on ebay - I was looking at one on the web recently . . .
As for taking them apart - like all Wilescos they are a mixture of tab and tuck metal and rivets, so some drilling may be in order, does the machine need a total refurb?
Some pictures would help with your requests!

Wilesco is just about worthless when it comes to discontinued engines. I was sort of hoping that if they didn't have any info themselves, they might be able to point me to a major collector or an old employee who likes to keep stuff about old engines. Not even close. About the only useful information I got from them was that the D32 was made from the '50's until 1981.

My engine is about 95%, with the only damage being to the 4 corners of the base where they got buggered up in shipping. A little judicious hammer-work will straighten them out. Another strange thing about my engine is that there is a dynamo on it but the wires have been cut and it doesn't look like there was a lamp on the base anywhere. The dynamo also sits up a good inch above the base on tubular risers. If it was added, someone did a very good job; nice and tight. A couple spots of paint missing and some scale on the inside of the glass, but that's about it...except for the inop tach. I've also got to get a 110 to 220 v transformer so I can actually =steam= the thing, too. Will post pictures when I figure out how to. I'm also building a carnival display similar to the one they're selling on MiniSteam, but mine will be engine-independant so I can choose which of my small collection to run it. If I can figure out how to post pics, I will.
Thanks,
Lyle |
