|
|
The rivet on my MM2 that holds the chimney has come a bit loose and so now the chimney wobbles.
I'm sure someone has posted this question before but I cant find it.
Is there any way to fix a wobbley chimney? _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

Does it leak?
Right, the only thing you can do is get a long nut and bolt. Drill the original rivet out.
Knock the end off the boiler and tighten the nut&bolt so the chimney is nice and tight to the boiler. Then solder the nut around the inside of the chimney so it's nice and steam tight.
Put the end cap back on, solder that up and it's done for life then!.
Make sure you use a brass nut and bolt! you can't get a rivet gun down the chimney do you can pretty much rule that out i'm afraid _________________ Solid Fuel tablets explode
You could get a nice flatbase for that

I had a feeling I would have to knock the end off to fix it.
You can buy rivet guns with a long nose to reach inside the chimney but don't know how much they would cost.
May look into that before opening the boiler.
They must be out there because Mamod obviously had one to do the rivets.
I haven't fired the MM2 up yet but it was lewis's and he had run it so don't think it leaks so may just leave it alone. _________________ http://www.freewebs.com/ozsteam/index.htm

You can re rivet it back on. I bought a really cheap rivet gun about 8 quid and it just squeezed down the chimney . I did that to fix my se1a. _________________ Now a Bowman, S.E.L, Wilesco and Hobbies collecter aswell as Mamod......of course. |

Make sure you take the chimney with you or the measurements to try it out first. _________________ Now a Bowman, S.E.L, Wilesco and Hobbies collecter aswell as Mamod......of course. |
