A picture paints 1000 words:

I'm turning some ball ended handrail brackets and need to work out the value of "z" where "x" and "y" are known dimensions!

What would be the formula for working it out? Sorry for the maths! I'm not bright enough to work it out though! I could just use a cad drawing and take the dimension from that!

Alan,

Why isn't dimension 'X' and 'Z' the same.

Or go to this site, and have a look at their concept,

Just a start...

Pythagoras.... Innit?

Square on the hypoteneuse = sum of squares on other 2 sides.

Centre of ball, to intersection with o/d of shaft (y) = half of x (hypoteneuse).

Vertical from c/l of shaft, to intersection = half of y (adjacent)

Horizontal = hyp squared - adj squared.

Add half of x for your answer......

Gimme some dimensions, and I can work it out quicker than try to explain.........

Those crazy Australian Keyboards! But do you have a "panic" button?

I have an "FlOCK" key too - it looks a bit dodgy though as the lettering is starting to wear off a bit!

If

x=4

y=1.8

Calculate the value of z
