|
|
Just arrived is this nice little mastrand roller.
These were made in England, and i believe sold by Gamages a department store.
I think they date from just post WW2,
and are said to be the inspiration for Malins mamod SRs.
Now this one is a bit different to others I have seen,
as the steam exhaust doesnt go into the chimney,
which the observant will notice in this example is rather lacking. The pipe looks well done, and is pretty old, I would be surprised if its not original?
The other odd things are the flywheel usually has terrible "Mazak rot" but this fly is pretty near perfect. Im SURE it is Mazak though The frame has a crack on it, so looks like a bit of Mazak rot there.
no burner, and it looks like the boilers been repainted, the brass straps are missing. However it has been fired a few times since repainting
The other thing is the "scuttle" is all brass, not painted , most oddly screwed and nuts in a few places. But rivetted (well) in others. Could this be a replacement maybe, though goodness knows why. The wheels also have different bolts to the ones Ive seen before as well, they are the "locking" type ones, nylock i think they are called, not sure these are original, and the fly is usually painted red.
Having whetted your appetites, all i can show is the ebay listing,
my cameras out of batteries !!

Or the kids have taken them from the camera and they're now powering a Games Console handset. _________________ Manx, the mobile man |

The fireboxes are usually steel or aluminium depending on which version you have. I've not seen a brass one before but screw construction is not unusual on the later ones and the Kit built ones. _________________ www.mfsteam.com the home of the MFtwin and replacement spares for Bowman, Cyldon and Mamod Steam Engines

Wow, nice example and certainly a chunky beast. The Mamod TE might have been modeled off the Mastrand, but it was lightened considerably in the process. _________________ Visit IndianaRog and The Temple of Steam: www.indianarog.com |
