Over on the Meccano Forum http://www.nzmeccano.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=184 I've been talking about the model I'm currently working on. I did intend to take it to an exhibition last year so I'm only about 12 months behind schedule.

At the moment though things are going together fairly well and unless there is a major problem then it should be finished and working in time for this years show.

It's based on the Railway Crane in the pre-war set 10 manual but rather than build a fake boiler etc I'm using one of the 1929 engines to power it all.

Roughly speaking now what I have left to do is the controls and control linkages, the detailing of various parts and a little bit of general tidying up.

Looking good so far. I'd say that lowering being faster than raising will be ok once you get used to it.

What gauge will it run on? I seem to remember the supermodel was around 4 inches but if you could squeeze it in to 3 1/2 you could bring it to the Leicester Meccano event in January and run it on the Hornby Rocket track. It would look good alongside the excavator.

Still to sort the wheels out - looks as though it is roughly 3 1/4, could perhaps alter it to 3 1/2 after Henley by changing the wheels at bit.

Do you know what the biggest thing made by Meccano on O gauge track was?

To the best of my knowledge its the supermodel dragline which will go on two parallel lines of track - well for while until the track starts to go under the weight.

Have just made the track it sits on - 2 1/4 seems to be the gauge for this one.
