What do others use for a building board? Been thinking about looking at big cutting boards.

I made one using a piece of MDF 2'X4' with sheet cork glued to on the top.Wax the cork so glue cant stick to it.I use the cork so I can stick pens in it if I need to hold parts down for gluing.

WOW that MDF is not cheap. Maybe I can find a small piece someone will sell me.
Thanks all for the ideas! Keep them coming. _________________ Jeff Member of the Georgia Steamers Association.

Jeff, any place that makes kitchen counter tops will have scrap cutouts from the sink placement. Those are MDF with formica on them, but you could glue a sheet of cork to one side and can probably get the cutout for little or nothing. _________________ Rog

Thanks Rog good idea, right now I do not need a big piece as the model is only 19x7 3/4. So a couple of inches bigger I think will work. _________________ Jeff Member of the Georgia Steamers Association.

I like to use hollow core interior doors for my work bench.
They are lauan paneled and inexpensive to buy.
I have used them to build model airplane wings as they stay flat and are easy to pin.
When it gets messed up you can sand it or just flip it over. _________________ Stitch

The wood work benches I have where built by my dad 44 years ago and are made from 2x10. I just checked them with a 2 foot level and not flat enough in my opinion. I all so have some shelving boards and they are not flat enough either. I would think that being flat is VERY important.

When I build something that I need to hold down with pins, I use some of that blue/pink foam insulation board. Works great! _________________ Gary.
