I've just been sent a photo of the smoke box for the internally gas fired loco under development:

The smoke box door is designed to open to aid lighting  but unlike Accucraft, its not hinged. Instead it is held into place with a bayonet fit. I think the smoke box and door look fantastic but am slightly worried about the bayonet principle simply because I can envisage the smoke box and the door expanding at different rates.

I'm told the boiler is also just about ready.

Still to be tackled are the 14mm diameter cylinders.

Mamod intend to have a pre-production model ready for late summer/early autumn.

I've asked them to send me some pictures by email rather than MMS. When they do I'll post them here if they haven't already appeared on  Mamod's website

Now that is very interesting development Mike. Thank You for sharing it with us.

Wonder if the boiler is going to be copper rather than brass?

Are the 14mm diameter cylinders still going to be the current style piston valve cylinders (as I recall the Roundhouse style slide valve cylinders were dropped due to high production costs)?

I like the look of that smokebox

This all sounds very interesting, will be looking forward to further developments/announcements

That looks pretty nice. I like how it says "Mamod" on the door. Mamod engines should always say "Mamod" on the front.

will be watching this one with interest.   hopefully they will use the D-Valve chassis they showed a few years ago;

if it is a good looker and runs nicely I may consider one.

Presumably too early in the development stage Peter (mamod), but will there be anything to see of this new loco on the Mamod stand at Peterborough next month?

Here's some more photos Mamod have just sent me.

I must say I do think this all looks extremely promising.

There's even a second blank in the boiler backplate which could be used for a water check valve like some of the Accucraft locos have.

Any chance the regulator can have a coarse thread to make fitting radio control easier?
