Well, after missing my last two 'must-haves' on that lovely auction website, when this plant came up as a Buy It Now on Easter Friday in the UK I just went for it. It popped on at 19.15 and was paid for by 19.20!

I used to have a Maxwell Hemmens launch engine and I should never have sold it. I have seen the mill engine in shots in an old catalogue of theirs. Incidentally that catalogue alone sold for £37.00 on Fleabay!

So, question to people more knowledgeable than I - that's all of you here
Is this rare or not?

I guess now everyone will tell me they are as common as muck and it's just I have not seen another. Anyway, let's see some pics eh?

All that lovely brass was hidden under years of muck, but a quick whizz on my polisher attached to my pillar drill had them gleaming once again. The length of the base is 500mm and height to top of chimney is 450mm. The boiler holds around two pints of water incidentally.

I love the little touches like those tiny brass handles, the maker's plate on the boiler and the oiler caps.

The only thing I can see that this could benefit from is to run a pipe from the exhaust on the condenser reservoir up the chimney. That's a fairly easy fix. I popped some air into her, and after a good clean she runs so slowly at around 10psi. She is a little sewing machine and the best engineered piece I own. So any other info. on her would be great please!!!

Regards

A Big Congratulations on acquiring one of the best steam plants one can get.

Is it rare? Yes, look around you and try to find another one, it may take months or maybe years to find one; they do not make them anymore. Is the quality outstanding? yes, and you will enjoy running it.

Was the price right? Yes, because if you were late BIN for 5 more minutes, it would have ended in USA to join its other steam toys brothers & sisters

For some reason, it was still showing on eBay for sale, and when I clicked on the BIN it gave me an error then disappeared. Congratulations

And commiserations to you Sir. If it makes you feel any better I lost out in a bid for another engine to one of the forum members here recently too and am still sore over that one.

Do not feel any guilt, and enjoy your new steam plant, it's gorgeous. Would you run it on air or steam?

Well its been on air already, but I need to figure out what the attachment is to the burner, and then, for sure, it's got to steam!
