I was just think.....................we see a lot of Mamod mobiles with different paint schemes from the standard black, green, red, and cream.

What's the general view on having different base and engine frame colours and why?

Please share your thoughts below

Jon.

I've done a few over the years, they have been good.

I've mostly done darker shades, greens, blues, very dark red/maroon etc.

They have made a great difference and I've always been pleased to do them and with the outcome - go for it !!

Hope that helps

Cheers

Mark

It always looks interesting. A restoration is never perfect so a little individuality is a good thing.

Be careful with the choice though.

If you need to do a repaint, it's open for some experimentation with colour

If it's a rare original SE4 or similar, I would say leave the colors original.
As for anything made in the last 30 years, I say go for it,
especially if they are still made or easy to come by.

Your engine so it's your choice. If you are happy with the result, then you've done well. If some don't like it, do remember that you can never please everybody, so you are far better off just trying to please yourself!

Original colours are nice, but there will always be exceptions to the rule.

One further thought here Jon ... if it should turn out really horrible it is still not a complete loss, as it can always serve as a prime educational example of what not to do with an engine or color scheme!

I was going to paint SE3 #6 in different colours Jon, then I realised I only had the original paint, couldn't be arsed to go out and buy more paint.
I got an SE1A off James, I think i'll make an effort to paint it different.

It's your engine Jon, do what YOU think is right, if it doesn't look right, you can always repaint it,

Not only as a lesson but can easily be repainted again......

and again.......

and again.......!

Until you like it.

Of course there are programs like paint where you can try
your colors on a computer before you actually do the deed.
