1907 Ticka Camera

This is for Me.

Who showed some interest in my Ticka camera.

My is the British version made in 1907, one was made for the US market and was called Expo, but it looked identical to the Ticka.

Here is the review of it in the 1907 British Photographic Journal

In 1909 they made a more sophisticated version which actually had a fake watch face on it and offered a range of shutter speeds. This one is very rare and I've never even seen a picture of one.

There has always been a fascination with miniature cameras. I used to have a Minox which was small too. Very interesting item there.
bessytractor

does it still work?  I'd understand of course if you couldn't use it due to its value
pauly

THats cool that is
johnreid

I doubt that film is readily available
Nick

Is it worth more than the £2 it cost new? I bet it is.
tmuir

It works and as of about 5 years ago when I last checked I could still get film for it but what I haven't got is the film canister to wind the film onto and without that I can't use it.
John I have 3 Minox cameras. Two the classic silver 'spy' cameras and a third modern Minox which took 35mm film.

I think me camera collection has been seriously devalued over the last few years with the rise of digital cameras but hopefully in time they will recover.
Me

The special cassette film, the 16x22mm?......

DAILY THOUGHT: IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.
johnreid

You would have loved the Cameras I used to have, brands like Hasselblad , Deardorf, Nikon and Linhof.
Collectibles are still going to be valuable, run of the mill film cameras are greatly devalued.

My Grandfather used to be the import agent for OZ for Nikon cameras and when he passed away and I was helping to sort out his stuff I cam across original draft versions of the Workshop manual for the Nikon SP rangefinder range of cameras.
They were going to throw them out so I took them.
Back then the Comms industry was slow and I coudn't get a job so I went back to TAFE (College) to study IT.
I sold the two manuals to cover the course and made $1200 off them.
A collectot in Texas bought them.
johnreid

The Deardorf was an 8X10 View Camera, beautiful large negatives, one place I used to work at had an enlarger that had an 8X10 carrier too! Most often I did contact sheets. The Blad was a 2 1/4 SLR great camera, 500CM.
I had some serious health problems and had to pay for that, lots of things were sold. However, I now have eye problems and therefore do not miss them. I probably sold them when the price was at the highest.

I bought it when I was living and working in the UK.
I can't remember exactly but I think I paid between £120 and £150 for it but what I do remember is buying it from a shop, walking 100 meters up the road to a market that is now gone and finding in that shop Near mint copies of 'The British Photographic Almanacs' from 1907, 1908 and 1909 and got all three for £20.

So in the space of 30 minutes from different shops I got the camera and the reviews of it, that was back in 1998 or 1999.

Sad to read that Johnreid, i hope nothing happens to make me sell my collection, its a deep part of me...

Tmuir - That is such a fluke!..
           What got you into camera's??

I used to travel a lot and like Landscape photography and as I got more into it I got more Camera's

A Bronica 645 with all the accessories which got stolen from my flat in Glasgow so with the insurance money I bought a Zeis Ikon 6 x 9 and a 6x6. I then bought a 35mm Horizon swing lense panoramic camera and then a Sputnik 120 stereo camera but was dissapointed with it so got a 35mm Stereo Realist camera adwell and then after that I just seemed to acquire cameras. I used to actively seek out submini cameras although I only ever used my Minoxes the rest were just for show.
I lived in the UK from 1997 to 2000 and it is a lot easier to collect cameras there.
I stopped once I moved back to Australia though mainly due to the fact back then I couldn't get a job so didn't have the spare cash.
Me

I only really like the pre 35mm which i only have one of, i only brought it because i brought afew other cameras and he was reducing the price for all and it came with the original box, its a Kalimar made from a japanesse mob...
I only own one Plate camera tho, my Wizard...

But why the old camera's?? did you use them too??
I cant find old 620film anywhere and i heard kodak stopped making it..

Mrs Me.
johnreid

If you have a changing bag, you can wind 120 film on the spool and reuse the paper. At least I think it is the same size. I do not know if it would be worth the trouble.

My Zeis's used 120 film the Kodak cameras I had that used 620 film I never used but John is correct that the film is the same size just the spoon was different so if you have some 620 spools you can wind 120 film onto it. John could be right about needing 620 backing paper too.

I have a Zeis Cocorette from 1907 (or is that 1917 can't remember now) that takes beautiful B&W landscapes just the tiny view finder drives you mad. I ended up just pointing the camera in the direction I wanted and hoped I got the scene I wanted.

The reason I went to Super Icontas is because I got my Bronica for a really great price and the insurance money from when it got stolen wasn't enough to buy another one but it did get me two Ikonas and had some cash spare.

The other really old cameras I just bought 'cause I liked the look of them' although I ran film through ever camera in my collection that still works and I could get film for.
johnreid

I used a Mamiya RB67 at a job I held when I got out of school.  The paper needs to be recycles so the arrows line up on the back of the Camera, older Kodaks didnt have  a mechanical stop for when you wound the film for the next frame so the arrows etc would have to line up correctly.
tmuir

Yes my early cCocarette is the same but still took good pictures.
Here is a later version of my camera.

Carl Zeiss always made some of the best lenses.
I had a few Schneider lenses when I had my View Cameras.
