1953 mm2i must say this engin does not run well at all the holes which the crank sits in have worn down so much
here it is running on a standard mamod lamp

Not sure I agree with you, "RPM record holder, Lewis". Of course, you're the
one who's right there looking at it.
But, if the shaft holes were so worn so as to make a speed difference,
then one would think there would be more "clank" in the sound of it running.
Could the trunion be too tight? Or some dirt or other obstruction in the port
face/block surfaces?
If the shaft holes really are the culprit, I've ran into this problem with my
homemade engines, and was able to fix it by filling the holes with solder
and re-drilling them.

The record holder is the sp2 not mm2 mate
it is the holes the shaft can move in all directions in the holes

I agree with Chuck! it aint gonna be the holes that effects your speed Lewis!
More likely a stiff piston? steam leakage? something like that
A nice engine

Try soldering the holes Lew. Fill 'em up...drill 'em out, Rawhide!
(from old west 60's TV show)

Hmm, yeah. It's not permanent, unfortunately, but it does
work for a while. Hard to replace metal once it's gone.
