2012 Olympic GamesJust finished watching the closing ceremony, delayed 5 hours here by NBC's obsessive desire to screen everything in prime time.
Although I have observed that the games do not seem to have drawn much attention here on the forum, personally I have watched almost every day and enjoyed every minute. The class and style with which they were presented was a credit to the host nation, made all the more poignant by the familiar landmarks of my youth.
Congratulations to team GB for their best performance since 1908!
Congratulations also to team USA for a spectacular overall accomplishment!
Mckayla may not be impressed, but I certainly was!

So what's new you expect it at the olympics.
Or is it just sour grapes cos Australia didn't
do as well as expected ?

I think us Kiwis did reasonably well and if you compare our result against population then we did exceptionally well

I wholeheartedly agree that the arrangements were impeccable and the opening and closings were spectacular yet dignified
A credit to Britain.

Much to my surprise, I enjoyed the whole thing.
I think it was a tremendous success and something we should all be proud of.

I am glad it didn't have its bling, it wasn't needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Games and watched them everyday.

I was wondering what all the hype was about in the build up to it, but loved the opening ceremony with the chimneys coming out of the ground and that, and also watched quite a lot of the games most days after work. Last night was a bit crap, but oh well
On the whole I thought it was good, and makes you proud to be British!

wonder what old Fred thought of that "Aye.ave to come down from here(the other place) and chop those down - I rightly do"

as much as i agree with hosting major events like that, i think that the fact that it was £6.4 billion over budget puts me off a lot. sure, if this country was in a strong financial situation, then why worry so much? it may have been better if 12000 people had showed up to fill all the empty seats!

I expected it to be awful, but I have to say, I am proud of Britain for putting on such a good show (except for the last night, which was less good).
Seeing athletes who had failed and were beating themselves up about it almost made me cry.
I heart Jessica Ennis.

I enjoyed the games. Best performance I think I'll ever see in my life time from GB.
Watched as much as I could and there have been some really memorable moments.
Last night wasn't great. Wrong choice of "artists" early on. Only two artists who got the crowd going are no longer with us....John Lennon and Freddie Mercury. George Michael and Annie Lennox was a bit weird and crappy. As for Tiny tantrum and fifty pence shockingly bad!
eric Idle was the best live singer all night
No country in the world could top that Olympics, from start to finish everyone pulled together and got behind it. Completely pissed on Beijing.
The Who near the end were great

Been watcing the olympics quite a lot, and it's been really entertaining. Just to bad we didn't beat France in the handball final...
Wish I could have heard that guitar of Brian May live, and the ending with the Who were really great.
Thanks GB for a well performed olympics, it will be hard to match.
oh, and Eric Idle made a great performance, loved when the Indian dancers came in

Much to my surprise I really rather enjoyed it.....nice to see the great British tradition of self-loathing suspended!

I always enjoy the Olympics wherever they are but I thought ours was brilliant from start to finish. The closing ceremony was never going to match the opener though but Brian May and The Who were great.

I think he did that a few times but yes that video clip was from Wembley '86
Not from when they stole the show at Live Aid

Saw more of this Olympics than probably the last 3 put together and am delighted to say that we really pulled the occasion off being hosts as well as team GB putting in a superb performance.
Almost everything I watched was a delight, the low points that stick out for me were the closing ceremony and some highly dubious reffing and scoring in the boxing.
The sporting action was terrific and the venues and backdrops for some of the events were excellent, it all went better than I hoped and the whole event made me feel truly proud to be British
