61 years ago today...On the 22nd March, 1947, after weeks of freeze, snow, and ice, the trent thawed, and flooded the town.
It were known as "black saturday", and there are loads of pics and vids from when it happened, which I'll try to upload.
Just past our bank field, the bank were breached, and it flooded all around, apart from my little village, which were like an island. Dutch experts were called for on massive steam cranes weighing 100s of tons, and by 13th Arpril it were mended, and they had created what we see today.
61 years on, and it's still snowing on the 22nd March!!
I'll take pics tomorrow.
