A new flatbase addition.Today, before dad took me to my brother's house (who then took me to the NRM York), I called in to pick up my new engine which I won on ebay!
It's a 1949-53 Mamod SE1, in quite good condition!
I gave it a quick polish and here she is!
I won it for about £42, so I gave him 4 crisp £10 notes and he didn't complain
The burner neatly made from an old oil can (goes click click when you press it)

Nice pair, there.
I would tend to agree. Someone went through the effort to make the burner and lag the line. That's part of the history of the piece now (unless they did it 2 year ago or something )

James

Aye mate, I suppose so! I'll keep it as it is
Thanks!

This way you can prime the wicks when you fill it up with meths Put your finger over the vent and press till it clicks.
Cool engine, only 40 GBP thats good.

I love that James - "I don't run my flat bases". I can just hear you saying that casually as a throw away comment.
"I have so many engines and there's so little time in the day to fire them all so I don't run my flat bases"
Now look, I've only just joined the flat base club and let's face it it's a much simpler decision for me -shall I fire IT or not!!
I love this forum!!

Thanks guys!
Well I tell a lie, I DO run one of my flatbases!! There's a video on here somewhere!

Good on yer
The only stuff I won't run is the stuff that's likely to explode or melt.
I'm very pragmatic

James
|
LOL!!
I've fired my 49 SE2 about 2 or 3 times, and it runs the best out of any engine I have ever run!

....that's true too... I did run that manky little Fleischmann once, and it used to belong to my uncles, who were known to run those things hard enough to melt solder (once had one of their melted ones, years ago..)
