Alternative to solid fuel tablets?

Dear friends! Ist there (other that meths or any other liquid fuel! I hate liquid fuel, if it's not me beloved beer) an alternative to the rather pricey Esbit tablets? The other day I came across firing tablets, which are used to start a barbeque fire (I luv it when the folks from down under say: "let's fire the barbie!") or an oil-fueled heater. Could we use them to heat our wee humble SR1a's or D16's?
Thanks, my friends for your advice and comments says

Tom,

Trioxane cooking tablet fuel sold as military surplus makes fine fuel if you like dry stuff...just line the fuel tray with aluminum foil as it liquifies during the burning process somewhat and can drip otherwise. Aside from that little quirk it's good stuff and relatively cheap...stinks about the same as Esbit and in fact I think it's a close cousin to Esbit for maybe 1/3 the cost.

I bought a supply via Ebay over here. Comes sealed in thick foil pouches, so lasts well.

cheers,
Rog

... thanks, Rog! I'll just buy a little box of the stuff I found here and try it out. Maybe it's similar or even the same as the trioxane. Here, it's called "'FAUCH' Grillofen-Anzünder".

"'FAUCH' Grillofen-Anzünder"....sounds like Trioxane

Let us know how it goes, but suggest having dampened towel nearby to snuff out a bonfire if it gets going too vigorously.

cheers,
Rog
