In the old days Result would have been a not so small blackened bruise on ya backside
Fired a rocket into the air one Fireworks night, thing came back to earth to land with a metallic thud- dented my cars roof

I have flown Estes model rockets for quite a few years now. One day I was out in an open field flying with my grandpa. I had a new rocket whose body came back by parachute. The nose cone had three blades and would "helicopter" back to earth.
I launched the new rocket for its 2nd voyage when everything went wrong. The rocket lifted off and veered way off into another direction and was out of sight. We stood there looking around and we heard/saw something coming right at us. I remember seeing the flame and we both jumped and ducked. The rocket shot straight into the plowed field within 15-20 feet of us. It went in so hard that it filled itself half full of dirt.
To top of the excitement, a few seconds later I looked up and the nose cone helicoptered down 100 feet from us. The rocket was still good and is still flying.
Here is the rocket:

I like that Nick, are they expensive? Ad says blandly "The booster returns to earth using a 12 in. (30 cm) parachute"
Clearly not every time
They must go high as well.

They are about $15-$20. The engines are the spendy part (one time use). You can get 3 for $4-$6. I have only lost a couple. If you have a large enough area they are easy to find.
