An interesting tale of full size steam and local heritage.I were reading Old Glory this morning, and there were a picture of a Fowler TE that went and crashed through a bridge (March 2008 - page 74). The bloke who owned it (Mr Henry Morris), is my mate's uncle. He's a farmer just about 1/2 mile down the road who I bought the Marshall tractor off.
In the article, it mentions the firebox were made by "Heppenstall's of Gainsborough". Heppenstall is dad's mate who he's known since he were a little lad, and it's him that knocked down Marshalls. Apparently they used to make steam boilers and fireboxes right up until the 1980s! They were brought by either horse or steam engine from Gainsborough, through my little tiny village and across the river Trent to the Isle of Axholme via the Walkerith Ferry.
Marvellous tale I think
