An SW1 finally arrivesI was given this as a Fathers day present. I knew I was getting something to do with steam, but didn't expect this.
It took a while, but made it from the US. Apart from a missing driveband, missing safety valve, all was great. Little did I know that a SW1 band is different from a TE/SR band so will order one or make my own. I have a few spare s/v's so can fix that.
I did worry a bit when the plug and whistle was seized, but vinegar fixed that.
I have a feeling it was barely steamed as some parts showed this like under the boiler, cylinder engine frame wear, around plugs.
It has got some rust, but could be more due to poor prep/paint at the factory. It has a lot of the Mamod faulty lines in the paint that are sometimes seen.
I'll get a vid of it steaming sometime. I wiped the last one
The box was flattened. I considered the oil rag treatment but........
.......Origami skills was a better option
As the box style is like all the other SW1 boxes, just missing the colour graphics, I will guess and say the cheap plain carboard with stuck on instructions was for the export market.
I made a few sacks for display purposes.

Nice one Wallace, I know you have wanted an SW1 for a long time and this one fits the bill. They are a dang nice mobile.

Very nice Wallace. Glad you finally have one. Personally I think the green one is the best one, ties in well with the rest of the range at the time.
Once run in, they are a decent performer.

Thats brilliant mate.
The box is defiantely original as I have seen quite a few! Whenever I have steamed one of these the cylinder has always flown off at some point, only stationary though.
A bit off topic but how the hell do you get your grass so green? Do you paint it?

That's the perks of being a greenkeeper. Mind you, I was expecting the grass to be shorter with a flagpole sticking out of the ground somewhere.

Great Engine Wallace, a brilliant addition to your collection!

Cheers for the comments everyone It took a long time but finally scored one. Ironically I was after one to restore and mod. This one is too good for that but won't be getting another
I was suprised at the size of it. I had no idea
I'll keep that in mind MM about the cylinder. So far so good. I think Lewis's had done the same thing. I recall a funny vid from the past
The lawn Actually we do have a blue dye and green paint at work, for grass. It's blue couch. Perfect for this climate. I don't do much to it. Fertilise once a year, and mow as little as possible
I don't even water it.
Admittedly if I had a cylinder mower I would probably cut it a lot shorter, fairway height

Being in a place where mamods seem rare (Australia), I had never seen one in person. I was real impressed at the engine.

I could go to town in this

That put a smile on my face, mate. I know how long you've wanted one, and that's a real nice example, boxed, too.
They're right girthy buggers, and one of Mamod's finest

As James has said, one of Mamod's finest. With the geared down final drive they carry the weight and size with ease and are very good runners.
Mine is very popular with the younger people in the household and is often seen carrying dolls and pokemon rather than sacks of coal or barrels
