(Another) New loco in the yard...
Got a gauge-1 Carette live steam (I think of it as the big brother to my o-gauge Carette) and am just pleased as punch <g>... When the 1-gauge track arrives and I get some time with the layout (in Kansas) I plan to fire her up and see how it goes.
For anyone interested, I have a few photos of my (small) batch of live steam aquisitions on my train website: http://clintjefferies.com/trains then click on the O-layout/collection link and they're toward the bottom of the page.
Best,
Jeff

I just love those of that style, all kinds of charm. Thanks for posting the picture,

Yes, charm is a good word for it. I smile every time I see it. <g>...

Yeah, I think all that stuff is pretty cool. I found a couple of pictures of the same model in Allen Levy's "Century of Model Trains" book which dates it at 1902.
I'm personally pretty fond of the elaborate reversing mechanism. Pull the lever in the cab and the linkage on the wheels all moves and everytning reverses... Pretty elaborate. Can't wait till I get it fired up. But I live in NYC and the trains are in Kansas so have to wait till I'm back there again in September...

That is very nice indeed, are you going to restore it or leave as is??

I'm torn on this one restoration-wise. On my other Carette, the paint is still in tolerable condition. On this one, what little is there is pretty much shot.
At most, I'd probably replace the missing "fender" on one side and repaint the cab and running boards.

I thinka repaint of the cab would be allowable, especially if you need to replace some sheetwork too. If it's just tinplate a coat of paint will preserve it for future generations. The rest of the loco has a lovely patina though which I'd leave too.

Thanks much!
Yep, I always hate to remove any original paint, but in this case, there's so little viable left...
Hopefully, I can find a large enough area to match colors and do a true restore. Hmmmmm. I wonder if anybody makes Carette rubber stamps out there to finish it out <g>....

Jeff
