antique cleaning recipe

After a bit of research, I found this recipe for cleaning antiques used by the V&A.

2 parts Linseed Oil
2 parts turpentine
1 part meths
1 part white vinegar

tastes quite nice
Les

Smooth move!

Might just try that out ( as a cleaner, that is!). I use a mixture of steam oil and turpentine. Smells wonderful!

Ugh! I despise the smell of turps, especially when it gets on your hands. Same as acetone, it never comes off!

You end up needing to clean the  Linseed Oil and turpentine off when done as they gum up with age and become hard to clean off. One can use that on a piece of furniture while trying to sell it as it does make it look like the finish is good.

its a good recipe for cleaning furniture but not our engines. i have over a hundred of such recipes for furniture polish and cleaners.

50/50 bearing oil and parafin works well, but remember to rub off when done cleaning other wise the oil will attract dust

I wouldn't use it on engines, I'm using it for wooden boats.

on wood .... you wont get it much better. its a good recipe. boiled oil might be better than raw linseed oil. boiled oil was the  base used for old time marine varnishes

I'm finishing with Renaissance wax - not shiny, only a soft lustre, but safe.
