Yes a couple of people here have bought a laser tacho.
You just tape some white tape with a black spot on it to the flywheel and point the laser at it. this ebay search will bring up some. http://search.ebay.com.au/search/...mp;saprchi=&fsop=1&fsoo=1 and he is a thread about it from a while back http://modelsteam.myfreeforum.org/about2199.html |

On the less sofisticated side of things you can hold a counter with a rubber friction pad on the crank end and time it for 10 seconds then do the maths to find your rpm

Would would suggest a little dynamo and a volt meter. then get a laser tachometer and mearure the rpms with it and the higher the volts the higher the rpms
