Curious here Andy to know what is the video output format of your camera?
If you can get an .avi file from it somehow, wma does handle that OK.
My digicam records to an SD card. I plug that card into the computer
and use Windows Movie Maker with no trouble for good quality videos.
I suspicion that you're talking instead about a live video feed into your computer, not an .avi file?

Are you connecting it with a firewire cable or a USB cable? A new DV camera should be giving you superb quality captures. Have you got the camera model number handy?

The red and white plugs will be the audio (L+R stereo) and the yellow plug is the composite video feed (analogue). So there must be a analogue to digital converter in there somewhere and that's probably why you are not getting that great a capture.
If you can get the make and model of the camera I can check to see if it will output digital video directly.

What you want is a video capture card/tv card, they record as you see it on your PC

The leads you are using are analog leads.
With a modern camcorder, you should have a digital capture lead with a usb or firewire on one end, and a smaller connector on the other to fit your camcorder.
Once you plug that in your capture software will automatically set your capture to digital quality.

Dat's right.
Though DAT is now old hat.
The other day I set up my old panasonic DAT recorder.
I used to make amateur (nonpaid I mean) recordings for the symphony of their performances--I tuned the pianos there.
Anywho, the 17 year old tapes still play perfectly!
They're reputed to all have gone bad by now,
so that's a plus for tape-based camcorders, the few still made today.
Yes, your cam surely has a digital output as Sandy noted.
It'll all work out. Get model number. We will read specs online.
